The occasion today was an awesome one that had the presence of every family to be honored and guests also.

The President of the Federation, Muhammadu Buhari gave an open apology to the nation at large. by saying...

"On behalf of the Federal Government, I tender the nation’s apology to the family of the Late MKO Abiola, who got the highest votes in the June 12, 1993 election; and to all those who lost their loved ones in the cause of the June 12 struggle."

Then President Muhammadu Buhari formally conferred late MKO Abiola with the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR), the highest honor of the land.

MKO Abiola daughter, Hafsat Abiola, gave a speech appreciating President Buhari for the honor. Read Speech below

"President @MBuhari, who would have ever believed that it's you God will use to heal our wounds, unite a nation. You apologised to my family and it touched my heart.” – MKO Abiola’s daughter, Hafsat Abiola.

Baba Gana Kingibe who was also awarded, appreciated the President also by saying...

President Muhammadu Buhari's track record for the past 15 years has shown that he is committed to justice, fairness and the democratic progress of Nigeria. - Baba gana Kingibe.

Gani Fawehinmi's son, Mohammed Fawehinmi, gave an appreciation speech as he represented his father in collecting the award, by saying...

"President @MBuhari is the first sensitive and reasonable Head of State we have had in Nigeria. - Gani Fawehinmi’s son, Mohammed Fawehinmi".

President gave his remarks on the event stating;

“Today, I am very happy to be present and to preside over the Commemoration and Investiture, marking the formal official Federal Government recognition of #June12 as National Democracy Day”.
