Unhappy Anthony Martial "wanted to discuss a move to Arsenal" as part of Alexis Sanchez swap deal
Manchester United forward Anthony Martial needed to talk about a move to Arsenal in January, as indicated by a report in The Times.

The Frenchman is becoming progressively unhappy with his part at Old Trafford, and has been connected with moves to Juventus and Bayern Munich as of late.

The forward hasn't started a Premier League game since the 2-1 win over Chelsea in late February, and hasn't scored in his last nine appearances for the club in all competitions.

And the report claims that he was unhappy at not being allowed to speak to the Gunners when they raised his name as a possible inclusion in the deal that saw Alexis Sanchez swap the Emirates Stadium for Old Trafford.

Paul Hirst writes: "It is understood that Martial was disappointed at not having the chance to discuss a move to Arsenal in January, when the London club raised the possibility of including the forward in the swap deal that led to Henrikh Mkhitaryan leaving Old Trafford instead."

Martial, 22, joined United from Monaco in September 2015 in a deal that could rise to £58m, but he has often seen his chances in the first-team limited despite his popularity with supporters.

In the first half of this season Jose Mourinho would alternate between selecting the Frenchman or Marcus Rashford in his attack, but the January arrival of Sanchez - who has only scored two goals in 13 appearances - has led to frustration for both young attackers.
